"Isn't It Sublime? The Aesthetics and Purposes of Art" Abstract: The concept of "The Sublime" has been a part of the landscape of philosophy and art for centuries, and has been difficult to define with any degree of certainty. The whole idea of what makes art worthwhile, as well as the purpose and function of art in human experience has perplexed us for ages. This presentation explores "The Sublime" in various social and historical contexts to show those complexities and what they may mean to all of us in the 21st century.
